If the soft tissue inside one of your teeth gets infected it can lead to complications such as a gum infection or an abscess forming around the root of the tooth. If left untreated this can lead to the tooth being lost. Our dentists can save the tooth by removing the infection through root canal treatment.
Since the soft tissue, called the pulp, is exposed if the tooth is damaged by injury or decay, we usually perform root canal treatment on damaged teeth to save them. In this procedure, we remove the pulp from the tooth and seal the tooth to prevent further decay.
Normally the tooth can then be restored with a dental crown or a filling.
